Hello all.......

I've upgraded my memory (or I'm trying anyway) to 512 k and the computer
starts up fine, memory is ok, etc and Win 2000 pro starts fine and gets
about 1/2 into the process and then the computer restarts. This cycle then
repeats. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tom Gahagan

Thanks dcdon......

I did this and I came to a screen ( I was missing this on the automatic
reboot) that said.....

NTSF_FILE_SYSTEM

Address... blah blah blah.......

Beginning dump of physical Memory.....
Memory dump Complete.... contact system admin... etc

So what does this mean?????

Thanks

First verify that the memory is correct for this machine. Second, reseat
all memory in the memory slots making sure that they are fully into the
slots. If these don't work you might have a bad memory stick

Tom - a common cause of this is [very slightly] incompatible RAM cards.
Even cards with the same "specs" but from different manufacturers. W2k
can be extremely finicky. I'm assuming here that you took the trouble to
make absolutely sure all cards meet motherboard requirements, are as
identical to each other as you could get, and are mounted in slots as
per instructions in the mainboard or PC manual.

You don't specify whether you added a RAM card or just installed a
bigger one. If the former, try booting with each card alone in the
machine. If the system boots with each card separately but not with
several cards together than that's your problem.

Take the RAM out and put back like it was with the same RAM you used before and
see if it works now
Take the RAM back, If does okay

Did you change anything besides the RAM?
CPU, disk, any motherboard item?
Did you wriggle the cables any?
