Hi,

I have a new Windows 2000 Domain called newnetwork.co.uk
and an old Windows NT V4.0 Domain called NETWORK.

I have setup all the TCP/IP configuration using the 2000
domains DNS Server on both but how do I get the NT domain
to be seen with the AD.

This is probabley due to me being thick.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ray

You have to set up a trust relationship between the two domains. The problem
with doing this revolves around the fact that NT4 will use netbios name
resolution while W2K will rely on DNS name resolution to complete the
trust(s).

In the event you are setting up a non-transitive trust between NT4 PDC and
W2K rootDC, add an entry to NT4 PDC's lmhost file that points to W2K's
ip_address. Do the same to the W2K rootDC but add an entry to the hosts file
instead.

Verify the trust is established in both directions if that is what you wish.
Once these are up, you'll need to rethink your DNS servers in order to
provide name resolution on the other domain. One option is to configure the
NT4 DNS server as one of forwarders in the W2K DNS server. In order to
configure forwarders on W2K DNS, the root zone must be removed.

Note that in order for NT4 and Win9x clients to use a partial subset of AD,
the clients need an AD client Extension add-on available at MS's site.
