When using the "users and computers" snap-in from a 2000
Pro or 2000 server, and connecting to a 2003 server that
is NOT the PDC emulator, you cannot view the domain which
the server you are connected too is in or the "entire
directory" folder. All you can see is the trusted
domains. This happens when you try to add users to groups.

The following article has a symptom of the problem but is
not the problem I have listed. (shows up when you select
the "managed by" tab)

When connected to a 2003 server that IS the PDC emulator
from a 2000 Pro or 2000 server, all works fine. When you
move the PDC emulator, the symptoms move too.

When using the 2003 users and computers snap-in from
either 2003 server or a XP workstation, there is no
problem because the object picker has a different
interface.

When connecting to a 2000 server in the same domain that
has the 2003 PDC emulator from a 2000 Pro or 2000 server,
all works fine.

I haven't tried to switch the PDC emulator back to a 2000
domain controller and see if this changes the symptoms.

I'm not sure but, I thought maybe it's related to the
forest and the domain still being at 2000 native mode. We
have not raised either the domain or forest functional
levels to 2003.

If you could shoot me an email when you find the problem,
I'd appreciate it. If you know about it, please just
steer me to the fix. Thanks.

Hi Tom. I am not able to reproduce this behavior. Can you provide a
step-by-step walk through of exactly what you do to repro the problem?
Also, what Service Pack are the Win2k machines at?
