2000 encryption and sharing?

Once you have encrypted your data files using the built in (Windows 2000)
encryption is there a way to share those files and work with them from
another computer?

I regularly transfer data files back and forth from my notebook and desktop. I
would like to have them encrypted but be able to use them on either computer.

How would I go about this?

If you are using the same user account and password on both computers, then try
exporting and importing your certificate and private keys from one computer to the
other via a .pfx file. You will need to select the option to export your private key
when exporting. Keep a copy of your private key on a floppy for safe keeping in case
of an operating system problem. Also keep in mind that as long as your private key
[and recovery agent] are on your laptop, that your data is vulnerable if your laptop
is stolen or "borrowed". --- Steve

Thank you for the help, I have been searching the net and was not sure I was
doing it right. What I did is: Then, on the second computer (where you are restoring the encrypted file or folder), use the Import command from Certificates in MMC to import the .pfx file from the floppy disk into the Personal store.

This seems to have worked, have I covered all the bases?

I understand what you are saying about the notebook being vulnerable, I travel
so much I have to have the information on there but that is a very good point.

Thanks again

Sounds like you did it correctly. Glad it works. I just wanted to mention the bit
about the vulnerability of keeping the EFS private keys [user and recovery agent] on
the computer so that you are aware of it. --- Steve
