I have a compaq armada e500 laptop. I bought compaq ram for it,
installed it and when I booted up to windows 2000 it Blue screened on
me. I got the page fault in non paged area... ntoskrnl.exe. I removed
the new ram and it booted up fine. I remember reading somewhere about
changing key pieces of hardware, and there are certain registry edits
that have to be made before changing key pieces of hardware. Any help
on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings --

It's almost certain that the new RAM module is defective, and
there's _no_ registry edit to compensate for defective/incompatible
hardware components. Just out of curiosity, have you tried booting
the laptop with _only_ the new RAM module installed?

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be fully
compatible with both the motherboard _and_ any other RAM module(s)
already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes jumper
switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM
configuration. Consult your PC/motherboard's manual for specific RAM
types that are acceptable, and any configuration requirements.
