hi all,

understood that XP doesn't suppot 2 USB scanners, unfortunately too
late for me since I have already purchased the 2nd one and will need
both, one for dedicated scanning and one for casual scanning and
printing (all-in-one). I can currently plug and unplug the device and
reboot to switch devices, does anyone have a workaround so that at
least I don't have to reboot? I guess I can deal with the
plug/unplug, but having to reboot every time is crazy.

thanks

XP will not support two scanners or a scanner and a camera connected at
the same time. However, you should have no problem disconnecting one
scanner and connecting the other without a reboot. You must wait,
though, until you hear the disconnection sound until you connect the
second scanner. Additionally, you might need to close any open
applications (Photoshop, etc) that were using TWAIN for the first
scanner to completely eliminate any connections to it before connecting
the other scanner. Depending on what I have been doing with
scanners/cameras, the disconnection can be instantaneous or can take
perhaps a minute or so after the plug has been removed.

Given the problems user have with multifunction devices in XP in
general, you might find other complications.

The driver binds only at boot. There is no other way.
