2 Tweak UI prob: Wrong icons and no search

Hi

I installed Tweak UI on my xp puter a week or two ago, and I'm having two problems

One is that my .htm icons are displayed as this ugly default on both my desktop and in explorer, and there is no way to change them. If I try to change them in Win Explorer, I can pick a different icon and the system actually remembers it in that dialog screen, but nothing changes. On my desktop, a right-click does not give me any option to change the icon. I've tried the "repair icons" feature of Tweak UI several times - no effect

The other problem is that I no longer have search capability in Win Explorer. The Search button is there, but nothing happens when I click on it. I can't say for sure that this happened with Tweak UI, since I don't use the search feature very often, but I'm pretty sure it did

Any ideas? thanks!

TweakUI is a Registry editor, so if the problems started after you
installed it you just should undo the settings you made in TweakUI to
find out if they are the cause.

Download the file "iconfix.reg" from
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 4. Repairs the Icon View

Then double-click the file "iconfix.reg", and follow the prompts.

Hi Jan

Thanks very much for your response. Unfortunately, the icon solution did not work - the only noticeable difference was that my icon option was reset to small. The htm icons are still that weird default - white page with colored dots all over. Any other ideas?

Hi Lklawless,

From your previous post...

them. If I try to change them in Win Explorer, I can pick a different icon and the system actually remembers it in that dialog
screen, but nothing changes.

The following works for me, in this sequence...

1)-
Windows Explorer
Tools-menu
Folder Options
"Registered file types" [ HTM ]
[Advanced]
[Change Icon]
[OK]... all the way back.

2)-
Close all instances of Windows Explorer

3)-
TweakUI for XP (SP1)
- Repair
- Repair Icons
- [Repair Now]

4)-
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 4. Repairs the Icon View

5)-
Refresh the Desktop

6)-
It may help to try this...

Line 30. (Windows XP Doesn't Save User Settings)

Do you have a Dell PC, or is your graphics card nVidia?

....same here, for both .HTM files and shortcuts to .HTM files.

Change the icon for *all* .HTM files via step (1), above.

Hi lklawless,

Try ...

1)-[Start]
| Run |
SFC /SCANNOW
[Enter]

-or-

2)- System Restore to a previous known good point

-or-

3)- Repair Instal of XP

-or-

4)- Get rid of the "Dell Media Experience"

-or-

5)- if you had a nVidea graphics card you could try disabling the "NVIDIA Driver Helper Service"...

[Start]
| Run |
services.msc
[Enter]

In the Services (Local) list,
right-click "NVIDIA Driver Helper Service"
and then click [Stop].

When "Service Status:" = "Stopped",
change "Startup Type:" to [ Disabled ]
[OK]

You might need to do this first...

Control Panel
NVIDIA Desktop Helper
[Disable nView]
[OK]
