hi

no more blue screen... good ! but odd.

1-now i keep getting COM Surrogate error over and over whenever i try to
play something in windows media player. Very annoying.
2-any website requiring flash player or macromedia player keeps saying to
install it, so i cannot watch youtube videos or get certain animations on
certain websites. when i use mozilla it's not a problem so i have those
things intalled.

Anyone know what gives ? or have any advice ?

It would be appreciated.

Thanks.

you have installed an incompatible video codecs, so uninstall them.

you have disabled the UAC, so enable it!

Hi BillD
1-I'm not sure how to uninstall a codec
2-My UAC was enabled and I just turned it off, re-reading your post says
enable it so I've turned it back on and really at square one.

Thanks for the tips though.

Mike

Hi John,
What is IE64?
I thought I was using the new IE7, this problem with the animations does not
happen if I use Mozilla and the exact same websites.
Problem is, I don't want to use Mozilla, I prefer IE7

Thanks,
Mike.

I have found a solution to the problem I had, and now I am not getting
COM Surrogate (with UAC turned off) and no more problems viewing flash using
the solution below.

Weird , but appreciate all the help given on these forums.
Thank you.
Mike.

Until recently I was not able to see any flash content (Soapbox videos, e.g.
;-) in my browser on my Vista machine. Adobe's installer site told me that
everything was fine, but other sites complained that I either had not
installed Flash, or turned off JavaScript (which is both not true).

So the problem behind this is Vista's User Account Control (UAC) which, on
installation of the Flash plugin, can't modify certain registry keys (even
though you are an admin), but doesn't tell you about the failure (which is
not a good thing).

The solution? Go to "C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash" and right-click on
FlashUtil9b.exe, the select "Run as administrator".

Afterwards, you should be able to view Flash content in the browser.

IE (both 6 and 7) come in 32-bit and 64-bit flavours if you have Vista or XP
64-bit versions. Flash doesn't install or work with the 64-bit version, but
keeps asking to install.
