I am the Admin for a Windows 2000 pro computer with two power user accounts.
I need a solution that will allow power user A to have internet access via
internet explorer and disallow power user B internet access via internet
explorer. I am looking for the solution to limit internet access (If need
be network access) when power user B is logged on the PC. Both accounts
need to be operating as power user because of the graphics software won't
operate otherwise. Someone of the part-time employees downloading spyware
junk atomic clock and calendar with gator.com operating in the background
and I want to put an end to that with my request as stated above. If there
is any solutions to this issue or any suggestions it will be appreciated.
Thanks!

There is a convoluted way that might work with Internet Explorer only, but I
would recommend that you try a personal firewall that can be configured based on
which user is logged on. You would need to configure it as an administrator and
password protect settings. A firewall is the best way to go because you can limit ALL
access to the internet from ANY application. See link for Portslock that can be tried
for free. Also keep in mind that any user with physical access to a computer can
fairly easily gain administrator access, especially if they can boot from cdrom or
floppy. --- Steve

Thanks Steve. I was hoping that there would be a solution within Windows
2000 pro. I was reading a thread from google that someone made that you can
disable TCP in a users account network properties but it didn't go into any
detail on how to do it.

Hi,

WebQuota (http://www.flicks.com/prod.htm#webq) has a limited
concurrent login feature which id's concurrent logins, then takes the
appropriate response (such as email you a notification, email the
user, shut down the account, deny access, etc.)

You can even set the level of concurrency (take response if more than
four people login at the same time with the same username/password).

While WebQuota allows you to use LCL (limited concurrent logins) with
both Basic and Cookie (forms) authenication, I'd recommend forms as it
is a lot more robust.

Thanks Scott, but I can't spend $500 for that software you mention.
I guess Window 2000 has a shortfall since there is no response from
Microsoft.
