2 pci network cards with 2 different ip classes

Hi there

I have 2 network cards that have different ips belonging to 2 different ip
classes.

One card has something like 80.x.x.x with a default gateway 80.x.x.129 and
one card with 81.x.x.x and a default gateway 81.x.x.1.

Initially I had only one card and the I recently I added the second one.

The system looks fine. It replies to ping on both interfaces but... from
time to time randomly one interface goes down for ten seconds while the other
is up and viceversa. The thing looks though mathematically meaning they don't
go down simultaneosly and the request time out repeats at some regular
interval. I changed the switch, I changed the cards and the thing keeps
repeating. I came to believe that Windows can't handle this combination and I
am truely messed up with my nerves.

Thank you for your help.

Hello again

Today I figured it out what the problem is exactly: the server keeps
switching the gateways (80.x.x.129 and 81.x.x.1) for no particular reason
from time to time. When it does this the network card that has the ip from
the other class of the gateway that is set goes to "sleep" for ten or more
seconds and then it wakes up ok. That is weird because the connections are
stable enough I mean one request timeout per 10 minutes. I found about the
DeadGatewayDetection setting but I set the keys EnableDeadGWDetection to 0
for both interfaces and DontAddDefaultGateway and even so the problem still
persists. How can I make Windows stop switching the gateways over and over
again ?

You can only have *one* Default Gateway.

Deadgateway Detection is a different thing and is used on *single* Nics
where aech Gateway is the same subnet.

I clearly understand that there can be only one default gateway but why is
that it keeps switching it randomly. When I start the computer the default
gateway is 80.x.x.129, after ten minutes is 81.x.x.1 and after five mutes is
80.x.x.129 again and so on. Why does is change if there can be only one, one
default gateway, one state ? It looks like a cuantum physics to me... They
say nothing can be determined exactly and everything is dual :)

If you didn't have two gateways than it wouldn't act like that. You already
admitted in the first post that you have two gateways,...I'm telling you to
remove it and have only one.
