2 Network Cards + Internet problem

Greetings,

I have 2 network cards plugged into my winxp computer. One is connected
to a router which provides my ADSL Internet (it also has 2 other
machines connected to it). The other is connected to a second computer.

When the second card is enabled it sometimes shuts down the Internet
connection, however I can still connect to my router. As soon as I
disable it (by control panel) the Internet connection works again.

The one connected directly to the other computer has a static IP address
while the other does not.

Is there a way in winxp to stop the other connection from turning off
the Internet, without disabling the card?

What have I possibly done wrong?

Cheers

Why don't you connect both PC on the router, in this case the 2 pc's can
communicate each other and to internet

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately that is not an option. The router
is in another room on the other side of the house. I don't want to run
a cable around the house (and the current cable I have is in the walls).

It must be possible to run 2 network cards on a single computer on winxp.

a hub is a simple solution that can be put into the same room to share the
single cable to the router.

Normaly it should work if you define 2 different subnets.
This means the adresses behind the mask must be different.
like
Mask1
255.255.255.0
IP address1 192.168.0.2
Mask2
255.255.255.0
IP address2 192.168.1.2

The subnet from your router is to define on the web page of the router.
The IP addres can be define automaticly from the router by mean of DHCP
server function

With the command "route" you can define a router strategy.
Or maybe the option "share a internet connection" will work.

Let me know if it works
