Hello, this question is about Windows Server 2003 but I could not find a section on that server anywhere so I'm hoping someone can help me. I've called Microsoft about these issues and they couldn't help me.....

First: I enabled ICF because I did not have a firewall that would run on the 2003 system and things were OK for a while but once in a while the mouse will move ON IT'S OWN to another location on my desktop. I do not have any server services running and nothing is configured on this system...I plan to soon but for now I just use it as a workstation.

Second: Because of the mysterious movements of the mouse, I've checked every possible log and nothing is found so I don't think anything is happening but it is just too scary for me to ignore. With that in mind, I've purchased a firewall and I wanted to try using the Routing and Remote Access to have more control. However, even though I've uninstalled and disabled ICF, RRAS cannot be configured...I get the message that ICF/ICS in enabled on my computer even though it isn't. When I start internet explorer it states that ICF isn't enabled...can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve these issues???

BTW, when I uninstalled ICF the mouse movement because more frequent and persistant.....please help!!!

How do you unistall ICF? I know it can be disabled. You may just need to
check your mouse cable/connnection or try another mouse - it could be
causing the problems. If that does not help do an upgrade install. ---

I have completely reinstalled Windows Server 2003 from
scratch after formatting the hard drive. I've seen no
movement from the mouse but I still cannot get ICF to
disable. I need to run a DNS server and RRAS but this is
blocking ports I need to use and I cannot configure RRAS
while ICF is running. It is disabled in services, it is
NOT checked "protect my computer..." in the network
connections and I have uninstalled it with add/remove
programs yet it is still running! How do I turn this
thing off?

I have a couple Windows 2003 servers running in my test network and have had no
problem disabling ICF in order to enable rras. You might want to try setting the
service to manual and stopping it to see if that helps. I never had to disable the
service to disable ICF. --- Steve

Most of the time, mouse movement like this turns out to not be hacking. I
believe a problem with the mouse hardware [or less likely, software] is the
usual culprit. If you think you've been hacked or compromised, doing these
things should usually show some evidence of this:

If you've formatted the hard drive, then you've removed any evidence that
would have proved whether or not you were compromised. If the problem
continues after that, I would suspect the mouse and related hardware next.
