We have an internal W2k network with its own dns server.
We are adding a W2k based web server and want to put it in
its own domain/forest so a one directional trust can be
established. Can we use the internal dns server to
support this second forest? If so what is the proper
setup procedure.

Thanks

You should probably be able to do that. If you create a primary zone on
your "internal" domain dns server (abc.com) for the "external" domain name
(xyz.com), set it to allow for dynamic updates, and point that external to
its ip for dns, it should register there ok. You might also want to set up
a seconday zone somewhere for that external as well though just so you have
another copy of it, as if the dns box where the primary is set up will be
the only copy so if its down, unavailable, etc it might cause problems.

Hi
Not a problem. Just make sure the new DC's DNS client settings are
using the internal DNS Server only, before you DCpromo go ahead and create
the new DNS ZONE that the new forest\domain will be using, then run
DCpromo.

Thank you,
