The first is associated with a 2000 Pro Workstation. I
have a PC that periodically goes into a 'reboot loop' when
it gets to applying security settings. I have narrowed it
down to if a network cable is plugged into the NIC the
machine 'loops', but if the cable is not plugged in I am
able to get to the login screen. I then plug the cable in
and I'm able to get onto the network. I've replaced the
NIC from a 3CSOHO to a 3C905B-TX to no avail. I've also
tried using a different cable located at a different
location to no avail. HELP!!

The second involves, I believe, our 2K Pro server. I have
certain WIN98 machines that periodically get ipconflicts.
This doesn't happen everyday. I've also replaced the NICs
in these machines. I have a WIN 2K PDC, with 3 NT 4 BDCs.

Any help with either of these issues is GREATLY
APPRECIATED!!

Thanks,

Scott

Open Taskmanager and look for the msblast.exe- or mspatch.exe-proces. Kill
it and go to www.sophos.com to get the removaltool. After that install
ms03-026 from microsoft to prevent from happening again.

Have you got WINS installed on the server? W9x, ME and NT4 needs it.
What does an ipconfig/all from the client show? Is everything pointing to
your server-IP?

How is that setup? Is DNS pointing to your server-IP?
What does an ipconfig/all from the clients give?

Marina

Hi Marina,

yes, DNS is pointing to the server IP. Until I get another
ipconflict, I can't say for sure if the DNS server IP is
populated correctly or not. it is on clients that are
running properly of course. It's been 2 days since any
users have informed of an ipconflict. So as you can see
this is a very sporadic issue.
