Zone Alarm is in the router, and although I have it set to "Enabled"
in the router settings, it has not disabled the XP firewall. In fact,
I cannot even tell that the Zone Alarm is working at all other than I
have the box checked that says "Enabled."
Its two firewall from two different machine means it wont offset. How
about if you install XP firewall and ZA(it is available for download)
on one machine? It would be or should be offset other firewall to
prevent conflict also save your resources. Xp firewall secure incoming
and outgoing connection on that machine while Firewall on Router secure
incoming and outgoing on your PRIVATE NETWORK.
Posible FIREWALL SET UP
Enabling your XP Firewall and ZA does:
ZA on Router protects you from Attack coming from Public(WAN) and XP
firewall secure private(LAN) and Public(WAN) attacks which is protected
also by the Router.
Enabling Only XP Firewall does:
XP firewall secure private(LAN) and Public(WAN) attacks
Enabling Only ZA on Router
ZA on Router protects you from Attack coming from Public(WAN)
To know your router firewall is working, try to scan your port. there
so many port scanner available use google to find one.
Try to port scan your IP ADDRESS(this ip address given by your ISP)
with FIREWALL on ROUTER DISABLED.
then..
Try to port scan your IP ADDRESS(this ip address given by your ISP)
with FIREWALL on ROUTER ENABLED.
Result should be different from the first one, else if your the
rightway, firewall is not working, or not properly setup..
