How to remove one of disk from riad and not lose data from other disk?
I have some problem with one of disk and i know wich one, what i need
to do to remove and use only one disk from raid? normaly.. install
fresh copy of windows.. and thats it?

tnx.

Yes, backup to where ever you can: CD/DVD, windows shares, FTP, HTTP
(WebDAV), third harddisk, whatever you can find in hand to store all your
data.

I`d recommend you to have two sripe partitions next time. That way, you will
be able to move all data to one partition, then delete the other and create
two simple partitions. Then move all data to the simple partitions and
delete the second stripped partition.

Unfortunately I`m in a really bad position, having to move a software stripe
to a hardware RAID controller and this means: backup more than 100GB in data
on DVD+RW disks and another 50 GB on DVD-RW for multimedia files.

And the worst thing is... Here is the story:
My old Plextor PX-716A recorder died slowly and now all the Verbatim DVD+RW
disks that have been written by it produce a very low quality recording, so
I have to rewrite it like 3 times with the brand-new PX760A to make sure the
data is safe.

I feel like cursed for buying the most expensive recorders and media and
having such a headache with them!

Jea, that is bad what happend to u. Hm, listen what i did last night.
IT was two disk, but when im starting windows they showed me that is
only on disk in raid.. ( in wnidows i see 2 )
so i just plug out one of them, and other i do format, and unfortiutly
that one is the one who got problemds, damns, was 200GB, and other i
have all data, and dont have time to back up all my DATA! i have 200 GB
for backuping, but its only music what i have on dvds so .. that dont
gonna make me problem:)

thanks, for information valkov, and sorry for bad english:)

I translated my message in Bulgarian (see after the English part). I thought
it will be easier for you to understand it? Click View --> Encoding -->
UTF-8 to display it properly.

The only 2 disks RAID array that is safe to remove one of the disks is the
mirror, because both disks keep the same information. In any other case
removing one disk, will make data on all disks inaccessible. In
RAID(0)-stripe configuration, data is sliced on two pieces: one that is
stored on the first disk and the other on the second. This allows almost
double speed, but if anything goes wrong with data on one disk, you can
simply wave good-bye to data on the other.

Sorry, looks like Outlook Express does not send cyrilic text with unicode
utf-8 properly.
