All I want to do is type a little note and be able to get a graphic out
of it. I can type it in Word, plain text editor, or HTML, but the bridge
from there to .png, .jpg, .bmp, .gif, etc has been impassable.

I know this may be a little off topic, but any assistance would be
desperately and gratefully appreciated.

Why don't you start with a graphics program and then add the text within
that? Why use two programs if one will do it?

The only problem with that is: I am an accountant and not a graphic
artist; I don't have a graphics program, and have spent 1½ hours
googling for one under freeware. Any tips? Thanks for the reply!

I don't know which programs you may have or don't have. Do you have
Publisher? Home Publishing? Some sort of card-making program? Most (but not
all) computers these days have some sort of graphics program installed.

A lot of people recommend Irfanview (see http://www.irfanview.com/). It's
more an image editor than an image creator, I think, but it's worth a look.

I will give it a try - I saw it on a list, but most of these are geared
for web pages, instead of a li'l ol' graphic.

(I never understood this joke - all my journals had to balance)

This thread seems to have run off the beaten track.

You have two choices. Type the note, select and copy the text then paste
that text into Windows paint. Save from there as a graphics file.
or
Use screen capture - SnagIt would be brilliant, but a bit over the top for a
one-off (though there is a working demo available)
