Hi John,
All I can think of with regards to your problem is that
possiby your original Administrator account is disabled.
If this is the case then when you open the "Users &
Groups" container from the "Computer Management" console
(this is in the "Admin tools" folder which can only be
seen in control panel when "classic view" is enabled)
there will be a red circle with a white cross in it next
to the name of the account (in this case administrator).
The reason why I suggest this is because 1) a disabled
account will not appear in the list of accounts available
to log on as and 2) If the administrator account were
disabled, then you would not be able to remove your user
from the administrators group.
