I can report that I actually received
my TigerDirect rebates last week, for
purchases made in August. Before buying,
I studied the postings in this newsgroup,
so I knew to be very careful, following the
instructions to the letter. Also, the equipment
(motherboard, memory, case, hard drive,
floppy drive) has worked all right.

Yes I have used Tiger Direct and have finally figured out how to get the
rebates...
it's best to print out the rebate form just prior to placing your order.

I can see why Tiger Direct gets lots of complaints...they keep the rebate
procedure well hidden!

Now I use either NewEgg or Monarch Computer

They have good reason to obscure rebates, as Onrebate
appears to be founded by Tiger Direct in 2004, not to
mention that they sell their customer information.

Even though I now have the system figured out I doubt I'll order from Tiger
Direct again.

The first time I ordered from them it was over the phone and when I asked
about the rebate...
they said they'd include the rebate from with my order...They did not!
When I called them, they said they'd mail it to me...
They never did.
Once the rebate period of thirty days had lapsed and the rebate was no
longer good...
they told me I was supposed to go to their website and print out the form.

Although on later orders I did get my rebate...
they'd need to have a 500GIG hd for $50 before I'd order from them again!

Before you use Monarch,I'd check their ratings at ResellerRatings.com and
read the thread about them in RR's forum,that place has really
slipped!They've gone from a highly rated company to rip-off artists in less
than a year!

They easily could... set the HDD to $50 after rebate then
invent another new rebate company that doesn't pay out.

I recently ordered from Cheapbytes.com, and there were some
problems with the CDs (failing the MD5sum checks). They really
leaned over backward replacing them. All on my say-so.

Now I have a full set for Slackware 11.0. Will get around to
installing it sooner or later.

I ordered a ViewSonic monitor from TigerDirect and had the monitor delivered
to my work address. I ordered it on a Thursday evening and it arrived at
work the following Wednesday. I had intended on using NewEgg.com, but they
wanted me to jump through hoops to have it delivered to somewhere other than
my home address since that is the address attached to the credit card I was
using.

Tiger Direct may be a pain when it comes to rebates, I really would not know
since there was no rebate with this item. But they delivered promptly and
the package arrived without damage. Likewise, Newegg may be a great
company, but they were not terribly convenient to work with.

Many of the better sellers do require this, it's a nice
safeguard if your CC info is stolen/misused.

If you find you are frequently ordering for delivery to an
alternate location, you might call the seller or add that
alternate address to the credit card.

In other words, I'd prefer sellers like TigerDirect didn't
exist for several reasons, and allowing ship to a different
address without any true verification of the validity of
that address is yet another reason.

If nothing else it's also the time having the account shut
down, having to use alternate accounts till that one is
replaced which may mean shuffling paperwork as people often
use certain accounts for certain things.
