We have a freeware backup program called COBIAN BACKUP. It has been great
and has backed up fine until I got this new machine. Now it doesn't do its
1am backup. Could it be because XP goes back to the "log on screen" and
isn't running? Do those things in the taskbar just quit?

It may be a power management issue - different hardware, different drivers
than the other machines. And the difference may be causing issues with the
system coming out of standby to perform the requested task. Or the Cobian
software may not play as nicely with the different power management
implementation.

The number one cause of scheduled tasks not running is a lack of a
password. See this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310715/en-us

If this does not apply, a more general article on Scheduled Tasks can be
found here:

The Scheduled Task log is mentioned in the general article. The Event Viewr
may hold some clues about the failed task as well.

Thanks.
The one thing that did get me thinking was this: suppose I ran Cobian Backup
as a service rather than a program. Sound like a possible solution?
XP goes back to the log on screen after a few minutes, so I'm thinking
taskbar programs aren't running. True?
Alternatively, how might I keep XP from going to the log on screen?
Finally, I checked the POWER settings and it is set NEVER to hibernate,
sleep, or turn disks off.
Help please!

Thanks so much. I had am confused with pm.
