I'm sorry, but Windows XP doesn't support changing the default IP
address for the Internet Connection Sharing host computer's LAN
connection.

You can change the address manually in that connection's TCP/IP
properties, but ICS (and possibly other networking features) won't
work properly. In particular, it will disable the host computer's
DHCP server, so you'll have to manually assign the TCP/IP
configuration on the client computer(s).

Before making the change, run System Restore and make a restore point
that you can return to if problems occur.

Just change it in your TCP/IP settings for your lan. You get the chance of
192.168.0.x where x can be 1-255.

What rubbish! I use 192.168.0.101 for my computer with the ADSL modem
attached and various other numbers in the 100s for my other computers. ICS
works just fine.

Normally you cannot change this address as long as ICS is
enabled. You probably don't have it enabled.

Absolute RUBBISH! I *DO* have ICS enabled and it DOES work and normally you
CAN change it because not only have I changed it on my OWN system, I have
had to change it on many systems in businesses around my area.

It works, I can do it so anyone with enough knowledge can as well.

Well, I'd say that my answer was a bit messy, but not complete
rubbish.

Changing the ICS host computer's LAN address to another address in the
192.168.0.x/24 subnet is OK, as "Unnamed" says.

I assumed that "Steven" was asking about changing it to another
subnet, such as 192.168.1.x/24, and I answered based on that
assumption. Changing the subnet does indeed disable the host's DHCP
server.

I apologize for any confusion that I caused by not stating my
assumption.

Sorry, Steve already explained it. You are right, as long as the
address stays within that same 192.168.0.x Class C subnet.
