Hi,

I've designed my first ever spreadsheet. I had a look at the layout in
print preview and it says the document has 1865 pages!

Surely this must be wrong? I think it should print a maximum of just four
pages.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Select the area you want to print and use File/Print area .. set prin
area.
Make sure settings are correct in File/Page Setu

You seem to have entered data in a cell too far below and/or to the right of
your actual data. Hit Ctrl/End to find the cell concerned. Unfortunately
even if you delete this cell, Excel will still think it is the bottom right
hand corner of your work area, and I know of no way to shrink it even by
deleting whole lines or columns.

Highlight the bit you actually need then define the Print area like Brian B
says.

In addition to what Don said, and dependant on which version you're using,
you may have to close the workbook as well.
(at least that's what I found in xl'03).

This happened to me when I highlighted a whole column by clicking lette
B for column B and typed a formula..... the formula was coppied to th
far end of the column and my spreadsheet became so big (3.3 MB).

The only way to get it smaller was by copying the needed cells into
new sheet and deleting the first one.

Cheers :

Edit>Delete all rows below and all columns to the right of your actual data
range.

Do not just "clear contents"........DELETE.

Now save the workbook.

In some versions a close and re-open is needed to reset the used range.
