On my server I have 4 drives 10.000 rpm 18Gb.

They are connected with controller Adaptec Ultra 160 2100S.

I have to change these drives because I am out of space.

I'm interested into buying 4 IBM Ultra 320 73 Gb 15.000 rpm drives.

Can you please explain me if IBM drives should be compatible (160
controller --> 320 drives) and also can increase performance?

Any help or tips much appreciated.

Best regards.

I'm not familiar with your controller or drives but in
general an U160 will run U320 drives.

Are some guru's in tha house?

Not necessary. SCSI is almost always backwards compatible and newer
generation drives are faster than older ones. Also it's pretty
standard gear being mentioned. Very basic rules of thumb apply here.

So - Yes they'll work and they'll be faster. They'll be running in
U160 mode but that won't matter much. Max STR of 4x 15K U320's in
raid exceeds U160 but the 2100S is a dog. If you haven't noticed it
now you likely won't feel it after the 15k upgrade.
