I downloaded some free anti-virus software but when I go
to the .exe folder to install it, I get an error message
that says "16 Bit Window Subsystem: An application has
attempted to directly access the hard drive, which cannot
be supported. This may cause the application to function
incorrectly. Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

Can anybody tell me why it's doing this and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Tara

When you downloaded the free software, did you check to make sure it was
compatible with Windows XP. From what you are describing, this software,
regardless of claims to the contrary at the web site if any, does not appear
to be XP Compatible.
