I have an XP home system running a Dos based program and it runs fine most
of the time. Maybe once a day I get the following error;
16 Bit MS-Dos Subsystem :(program name) NTVDM

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely
fashion.

When I get this message I can ignore it or terminate the program. If I
ignore it the program still works. Also once in awhile the screen will go
blank and the system seems to be locked up, after 2 minutes everything works
fine. I know this has something to do with the MS-Dos program but I cannot
find it. The program runs fine on 7 other systems which are networked to
this system. Any Ideas?

Not everything in the following article will apply. The article was written
for Windows 2000. However most of it does.
[[If it was not one of those, you can try the DLLs under the following
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\W

Value: Known DLLs]]

The above should read...
