Have several instances where older 16 bit versions of our program
just stop working in XP, (both SP1 and SP2 machines). You get a
message that says Windows cannot run a DOS application. I have
tried pasting the AUTOEXEC.NT into the SYSTEM32 folder without
success. Any ideas as I hate to have my customers unable to run
our program. Thanks in advance.

Hi

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767

You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt/config.nt by
copying a backup copy held in %windir%\repair\ to %windir%\system32\
(%windir% is typically C:\Windows) instead of using the procedure in
the KB article above.

Could be caused a trojan or something similar, e.g.
TrojanDownloader.Win32.Dia.a, more about this here:

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause if you
have WinXP SP2 installed:

Thank you so very much. I am
waiting on a call back from my
customer and will try copying
the files to the Sys32 folder.
You are really a big help.
