12V Voltage problem?

I have just got my system up and running. It seems like a faulty mainboard or AGP and the cause of the problem remains as a mystery. I, however, remember downloading and executing a game called Super Mario Bros from Morpheus. That was the last thing that happened before chaos broke. it could be a virus? but a virus that attacked the mainboard or agp??

anyway, it's running with a new mobo now. I have been running this software called Asus Probe that monitors activities and temperatures of the mainboard, CPU, the fan speed, and power voltages.

I get beeps on the +12V as the actual reading is 15.503, which is way above its treshold. I dont exactly know what this means. That is the voltage monitor. Can anyone point out a solution to this? ... like, erm, reduce to below its treshold?

First thing, have you checked the unzipped Mario file for a virus?

If you do have a virus, it could be messing with your hardware monitoring software.

If that voltage is genuine, it is a tad on the high side.

Unless your PSU has pots for adjusting voltage, there's little you can do apart from try a new PSU.

Can you measure the voltage with a meter? (from a spare molex connector, with board running)

Or can you check the 12V rail in the Bios?

And are you actually still suffering problems?

Most software monitorings aps are not that accurate but 15V + does seem high.
 
PS: I don't have an Asus board atm, but I've used that monitoring software.

I'm sure there is a facility to adjust threshold.

i have ASUS probe, go into the settings and change the +12V threshold to about 20%

I just got a new PSU by QTec 500W. It used to be 300W Jeantech. I had tried connecting all power cables according to the mainboard manual on the new mobo. Tried both 300W and 500W on the new mobo. 300W still shows 15.503V and I have no idea. This is one of the reason I got a new PSU thinking the system is under supplied with power. What does +12V means?? How will it affect my system if I left it ignored

I do have spare molex connectors but how do I measure the voltage?? in CMOS setup?

Asus Probe can adjust the threshold by percentile points but mine can only go up to 15%. Default at 10%.

Please advise.
 
Yes your voltages are quite a tad too high..I have an Asus kv8 pro and my voltages are way lower and more stable...check the 2 screenshots here for Comparison

I checked my boards settings and it looks like 15% is max i can go on my board with default at 10%..

By the way Qtec 500 watt PSU is not a good brand, and aren't regulated as well as some of the other makes of psu, they tend to spike out all over the place and are just very unreliable when it comes to giving a stable current....

When it comes to PSU's you get what you pay for and i bet that one didn't cost you a lot...

But what do you think is the root of this problem and how do I get down to it?
Since I just got the QTec PSU and it's not that good, should I change it to another now?
If that's the case, I dont understand why everything worked perfectly with my previous mainboard and PSU. :( confused
 
Yeah you could be right it could just be a faulty motherboard, have you another one you could swap it out with..failing that rma it and get a replacement mobo if everything worked ok with the existing psu before...
 
Do you get any errors whilst using your system 15.5V is way too high (anything about 13V would cause problems, at a guess). Your hard drive just couldn't handle a voltage like that, so I suspect its a reading error.

Are there any problems with stability, or can you check them directly in the BIOS?
 
I haven't got any problems yet but when I kind of noticed a slower HDD reading/writing speed.

I'm seeking for solution. Anybody? 15.5V is, I know, a tad too high and I cannot be convinced otherwise.
 
I have finally solved this problem.
Been thinking a lot about the possibilities of the problem and thus the solutions. Tried everything but failed. Then I remember I have just changed to a new mainboard but still uses previous hard disk(s). Decided to uninstall the version of Asus Probe 2.20.022 which I have always been using, and instal a newer version 2.22 which came with the mainboard's CD.

Voila! Everything is back to normal

+12's value = 11.998
+5's value = 5.134
3.3V value = 3.472
VCore's value = 1.584

I thought it could be the video card. User should be aware of which graphic card the mainboard can support. Look out if your mainboard takes 1.6V or 3.3V video accelerator card.

Well there's your problem, innit?

You changed motherboard yet still using old hard disk with original OS on it.

Wish you'd said that in the first place...
