My computer is using NVIDIA FX5500 GeForce graphic card and Philips 23PF9946
LCD panel. They are connected using DVI interface. The panel has maximum
resolution 1280 x 1024 while the graphic card has 1280 x 960 maximum. Thus
I can adjust the graphic card resolution to 1024 x 768. How can I improve
the resolution without changing the graphic card?

Thanks,

Scott

Your video adapter drivers probably need to be reinstalled.
Visit the support web site of the manufacturer of your video
card adapter and download the latest drivers.

Latest NVIDIA Drivers
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html

Before installing them, uninstall the old drivers. In your
Control Panel, open the Add or Remove Programs applet
and look for your video drivers to uninstall.

After installing a fresh set of drivers, right-click on your
desktop and select Properties > Settings, change the Color
Quality to "Highest (32 bit), then adjust your Screen Resolution
to your liking, then click on Apply.

Carey,

I have been using the driver from ForceWare v81.98 in which does not support
1280 x 1024 and does not work at 1280 x 768. Where can I find the supported
resolution of a graphic card until you purchased and installed it.

Thanks,

Scott

Unfortunately, your NVIDIA FX5500 GeForce graphics card does
not support a 23"wide screen monitor having a 16:9 aspect ratio.
You'll need to upgrade to a new video card in order to obtain
your desired screen resolution.

Example:

Carey,

Thanks for your suggestion. I note that the max resolution on GeForce
6600GT is 2048 x 1536 that is same as my old one, FX5500. How do I know if
this board supports my desired screen resolution, 1280 x 1024?

Scott

You'll have to contact Phillips and ask them if
the monitor supports a 1280 x 1024 resolution.
I don't believe it does as the specs state only a
1280 x 768 resolution is supported.

Carey,

Thanks for your suggestion. However, the NAVDIA adapter detects a maximum
resolution of 1280 x 1024 on my flat panel and the user guide of Philips tv
also states maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz or 75 Hz. The
GeForce FX 5500 is said to support 2048 x 1536 and 1600 x 1200 at DVI. In
reality, the resolution selection is up to 1280 x 960 only.
