Hi!

Just got one more HDD. The problem is that I can't seem to be able to
make 120gb FAT32 partitions anymore? Actually I can't get them bigger
then 32gb.
Yeah, I know that 32gb should be the limit, but hey I gots 3 more drives
workin nicely with big FAT32 partitions.

The thing is that for those drives I just ghosted the old drive to the
new, and Ghost automagicaly made 120gb FAT32 partitions. Now, I don't
wanna ghost (don't have the time ghost is oh so slooow). Tried Partition
Magic, but got wierd errors?

Now, I dont wanna 32gb paritions cause I have just enough letters taken
allready (just think about it, 4 drives, 1 dvd-r, 1 dvd, 1 flash drive,
1 image drive).

Heh, but it would be fun, heh, 1 drive 4 partitions :) That's 16 for
HDDs + 4 for the rest. 20 drive letters :)

And, yeah I know that I could just stick with NTFS.

But don't wanna.

You are running XP right? The partitioning software that comes with XP will
not make fat32 partitions larger that 32gb. Microsoft did that on purpose.
Your options are:

1. Use 3rd party software such as partition magic (you said you had
trouble. What kind?) or partition commander or rajneesh or ??

2. Use the latest windows 98/ME fdisk. It is downloadable from microsoft.
Bootdisk.com might have it on a bootdisk as well.

Nothing native to XP will work.

I don't think that is entirely true: this taken from
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314463
You cannot format a volume larger than 32 gigabytes (GB) in size using the
FAT32 file system during the Windows XP installation process. Windows XP can
mount and support FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB (subject to the other
limits), but you cannot create a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB by using the
Format tool during Setup.

Of course your suggestion of using the 98 fdisk would work just fine.

Well, no, I hate it. It's too ugly to use, but that's another story :)

I use w2k. Should be the same.

Yup. And w2k.

It was just a 80gb disk. I just used Partition Magic (7 i think). At
first it seamed ok. But upon booting w2k it was unreadable (and w98, w98
showed it as two partitions, both unreadable). I thought i f*d up
something, used PM again, but the same thing. Tried reainstalling PM,
using pm from windoze, started geting errors from PM. Gave up.

Tried formatting it in w98, no go.

Tried Fdisking, but fdisk (w98) was confused about the size (lists all
big drives 80+ gb as 5gb?) didn't even wan't to try.

I finaly booted w2k. And I first tried FAT32 one partition with w2k, and
waited like years, just to get to 90% and an error about the size. Then
I gave up and parititioned and formated it there. In three partitions,
sob :(

Hmm will try.

Yeah, I get it. But I'm not installing anything. I just need a tool to
get big FAT32 partitions.

Will try. I did try the fdisk that came with w98, but it failed to get
the job done. I was just scared that it showed my 120 partitions as 5gb.

The disk manager in XP will not create a FAT32 partition larger than 32gb.
That is documented on MS somewhere and in the WIN XP help as well. Have
verified this personally. XP can use any size FAT32 partition, just can't
make the big ones.
