100% cpu usage

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 2000
professional. When I get on the internet, the cpu usage
goes to 100%. I am unable to surf with ease. My
computer clogs up. When I am not on the internet, it
works normal. What can I do?
 
Remove the viruses from your PC and install the latest security patches and
update your virus definitions for your anti virus software.

In addition to viruses, there is also spyware that will consume vast
amounts of CPU when connected to the internet. Run a spyware checker
like Adaware on your computer as well:
