Is there anyhing you can do any tests etc that you can run to tell whether a
windows 2000 machine is running at 10mbps or 1000mbps

I have a server where the network card is set to run at 100 mb/ps but I want
ot make sure it is running at that.

Thanks

There are several possibilities.

Hardware:
* The hub should usually show you (with some LEDs - see manual) whether the
connection is 10 or 100
* The NIC itself usually also has LEDs on the back that indicate whether the
card is running at 10 or 100

Software:
* Some drivers, like Intel, include apps that let you see the status of the
NIC, including the current speed.
* The driver (control panel - system - hardware - device manager -
right-click NIC - properties) can also be set to be at a fixed speed - this
way you can force it to 100Mbit.

Speed:
* Last but not least you can just copy a big file to see whether the NIC is
running at 100Mbit. You should get around (depends on OS, how you copy (ftp,
http) etc) 10 Megabytes per second.

Hope that helps.

Right-click the "my network places" icon on the desktop and choose
properties. The "network and dial-up connections" window will appear.

From there, right click the "local area connection" icon and select
"properties".

From the resulting dialog, check the box for "show icon in taskbar
when connected".

Once you've done this, you will see a new icon in your tray. If you
hover your mouse over this icon, it will report the current speed.
You can also double click the tray icon for more information,
including the desired speed setting.
