1 GB or 512 MB x 2?

Will I get faster speed and/or performance from one 1 GB memory card or
two 512 MB memory cards? This is for a Toshiba Satellite M65 laptop.

You mean an additional SO-DIMM? Most laptops come with two SO-DIMM slots
with one "occupied" from the factory. There are exceptions though where
both are occupied in the original configuration. Have you popped the
memory slot covers to see what you currently have?

As for perfomance issues with dual equal sized memory channels, that
depends on the chipset and the memory type used in the system. Again,
taking a look at currently installed memory will help determine where
things stand here. Also take a look at www.crucial.com and look up your
system for recommended memory.

Would have thought that two 512Mb sticks are better than a 1Gb singl
one....I would imagine they would run cooler as the heat is sprea
over a larger area

Whether any other benefit is gained remains to be seen..bear in min
the latency (CL) lower the figure faster they work

Depends on devices used, though I don't think there's a bg difference in
heat from one or two SO-DIMMs with equal capacity.

With a dual channel memory controller, there is a performance advantage in
having two equal sized SO-DIMMs, one on each channel. CL is overblown as a
measure of DRAM performance and has nothing to do with one or two modules.

Yer a wee bit late err, Davy.:-)

There may be a difference, though not large in any case. Certainly the
1GB device will lower the loading on the bus. ...and that's a good thing.
Everything else being equal, the larger device is *always* better.

Things aren't always equal. ;-)
