hello,

considering buying a new mobo and was wondering which is the better /
faster processor of the two i have.

1.8 GHz P4 400MHz 256kb Cache

2.7 GHz Celeron 400MHz bus 128kb Cache

i know cache is very important, but was wondering if the extra .9GHz
would offset the difference in the cache sizes.

thanks,
amc

Since you have both, why not try both ?
1.8 GHz P4 400MHz 256kb Cache
2.7 GHz Celeron 400MHz bus 128kb Cache

I doubt you'd be able to pick it in a proper double blind trial.

With relatively fast system memory the Celeron would be faster.
With slower memory that is shared with the video adapter the 256 KB cache would make a bigger difference.

I think the celeron would win. At least in many applications.

The Celeron is faster. However, I would not buy a new
motherboard to run either of these, IMO you're better off
buying a board for a newer CPU, the new CPU too, then
selling both of those CPUs to recoup costs if necessary.
