Hello,

I have an xp machine I take care of and when I installed the latest hp
driver (from windows update) for c7200 HP printers I get the error
0x80070012. Any idea on what I can do to get this installed?

Never use win update for drivers
And in any case if it aint broke dont fix it

This is an example of why you should not use
Windows Update to get drivers. You should get
them from the manufacturer. (For Nvidia and ATI
video cards, use nvidia.com and ati.amd.com
for the downloads.)

I was offered the following driver, even though I don't
have this hardware on my computer. This caused
people needless grief. This driver was offered
to WinXP customers as well. After a period of
time, Windows Update stopped offering this,
once the mistake was recognized.

It is much better to be in control of
your own drivers, and only update drivers
when there is good reason. (For example, people
who buy a lot of 3D games, need up to date graphics
drivers, to suit the game designers. Many games
insist on only the freshest of drivers. For
many other pieces of hardware, no significant
updates have been offered for ages, and the
design is stable.)

If you actually have a problem with your computer,
such as freezing, or an actual driver error in the
Event Log or the like, then that is another time
you might consider a driver update. But otherwise,
drivers do not need the same level of attention
as "changing the oil on the car". Many of the
drivers on my computer, are the ones originally
installed.
