reproduce. what until you see system tray icon show with explanation point.
double click to open window. window says, you have not scanned your computer
in 3 days. ( wait 4 - 5 days, before scanning ). we recommend that you
schedule windows defender to scan your computer each day. PRESS the start
scan button on the right. ERROR. 0x80004003. Invalid pointer.

This is a bug. It is known to Microsoft, but not fixed in code distributed
thus far. The workaround is to do the scan via the menu choices, rather
than using the button.

I would recommend you use the Search For: box, and enter the error number to
get the lates news or advance in each NG.

Can you go to Windows Update, do an Express scan, and apply all offered
updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature
update with windows defender will fail until you have these files.

after i posted this question, i did a search in application compatibility.
according to Joe in a post during Feb., this bug is fixed.
i also, posted in that NG, and asked Joe to reply.
i updated WD via WU, today, 04/13, and still seeing this bug.
almost two months after Joe's post, fix is still not released. i,
disappointed.

It´s a new version out now and I have tested it and the bug seems
to be fixed.

Thank you for the heads up.

I wish M$ post the fixes on each new engine or updates. That way the
solutions for the users can be more efective and more center.

Hi plun,

Since January 2005, I don't have any problems with this program, with Beta
2, the only problem I face, was something minor, relateded with the date and
time, since then, no problems with updates, the AutoDownloder, the schedules,
etc etc. my PC run smooth, with no problems.

So I'm going to wait a litle longer before I upgrade to 1347, in this time
time I can have the feelings about the bugs and whatever

Remember - if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

When I decided tu upgrade "the last words I'll speak is an old Indian
saying, hok-ah-ei -- it's a good day to die."
