when is oftcom doing something about these number?

0845 is,nt a local rate call

BT say a local rate call is 40 p for 20mins, so can you get 20mins from a 0845 number?

the answer is no

Hi Michael. As has been mentioned here before, it's sometimes possible to by-pass some of these numbers, when you find them listed on "Saynoto0870.com" They have alternative numbers for 0800, 0808, 0844, 0845, 0870 and 0871 numbers. It's always worth checking them out first, when you're looking for a specific listing.

Yep use it all the time TC I will NOT dial any number starting with 0870 etc: if they want my custom give me their free phone number? or stick their business

Itsme  yes, I much prefer to speak to someone "local" to my query, rather than a call-centre. I never could see the benefit of having to go via Hull or India, just to establish whether an item is in stock at a store in Cardiff.

It's called a lo-call rate. Not the same thing as a local rate but probably deliberately chosen to make people think they're getting the local call rate.

Once upon a time it was a local call rate but it was rejigged :(
ISP's used to use them for their 1p a minute access plans.

But times change and companies aren't willing to pay as much (there was a charge offset that the owner of the number paid towards or had a scheme with the number provider)

I hate fricking Call centers..I have spent the best part of this morning trying to order a ECU for my bike..The odering system on their site has been down for the last 2 days..It give you a number to call, which guess what is in fricking India..The annoying thing is, the distributor is about 3 miles down the road from me..And you think I can just go there and order it..???No, I can't..Has to be ordered via site or phone..Grrrrrrrrr..
