Windows XP Update Downloads - Or Lack of Them

Over the last 10 days I've lost the ability to download my updates from a-squared Free and Avira AV.
On both it states "No connection to the Internet" when there is clearly a connection as I can get Google etc. and can receive emails. Is there some box somewhere that simply needs ticking to allow downloads? I have changed nothing recently.

Anyone got any ideas?
 
This ruddy problem has not changed. I STILL cannot get updates for a-squared Free and AntiVir. Both state that an internet connection cannot be established despite me being connected. I even tried reinstalling AntiVir but I get the same answer.

What's going on?
 
I dunno about a2squared but you may wanna try; Expert mode under General / Update in AV
